The first two weeks of our Wonder Trail project have been an action-packed journey into the past! Our 18 students began in Week 1 by visiting the Roman Baths to observe how history is brought to life through multimedia, such as audio guides and sensory effects. Back in Bruton, they officially became "historians," visiting the Bruton Museum to identify significant objects and sites through the lenses of Trade, Religion, Industry, and Community.
In Week 2, the focus shifted to deeper local investigation. Students analyzed primary and secondary sources and used "mystery packs"—curated collections of historical maps and documents—to research specific locations like the Dovecote, Packhorse Bridge, and St Mary’s Church. They also compared historical maps with modern views to track change and continuity in our town’s landscape over time.
A major highlight was the town-centre scavenger hunt. Supported by six wonderful parent volunteers, student teams used Google Maps and local knowledge to track down physical evidence of Bruton’s heritage. They captured photos of "reused stones" from the original Abbey and even discovered protective "witch marks" on old doorways.

Throughout these sessions, students have been uploading their research and initial Augmented Reality (AR) narration ideas to a shared drive. They are now using this evidence to transition into the Plan phase, where they will design the final interactive routes. We are incredibly proud of their growing curiosity and the high-quality, specific feedback they are already giving one another!
